If everything fails

I bought this dress on a flea market last year. It was quite worn, had a few stains, some ripped seams and was overall quite yellowed around the bodice. But I liked the pattern and thought that I could get rid of the dirt first and then fix it. Well, I was wrong. I scrubbed like there was no tomorrow, I tried soft bleaching, nothing worked. And because I´m no fan of worn out colours I did something a bit more radical. Home dyeing! It was hard to choose what colour I should go for that matches my accessories, my lipsticks, the colour of the pattern and that is not marine blue. The result:

I love green. It´s even brighter than in the picture and I seriously can´t stop looking at it. Now I need to find some nice black buttons and maybe sew a black belt to go with it.

Elsa 11/12 1949

Sadly, this one came without the matching patterns. But therefor it was free and is still nice to look at.

I´ll take this sweater, please! And the
sunglass, while we´re at it.

Elsa 12/1953

It´s Elsa time, ladies and gentlemen. I had this in my mail the other day including a little present, which was another issue of Elsa dating from 1949. How nice is that? I´ll upload it later today.

The deers!
Sadly the magazine doesn´t contain the stitching
pattern for the fairy tale dress. I think it´s great.
I always smiled like that when I had to do my
homework. No, wait...

Turning a bad hair day into "Yay!"

So, rumors say that today´s the first day of summer. I think somebody should have told him then. I for my part had planned to go for my regular pin curl set for today. A friend of mine had a seriously important presentation and I felt it was appropriate to dress up a bit. To bad my set had other plans and turned out like a very messy late 50s page boy. Not funny! Luckily I had bought a hair rat some months ago and then never used it because of lazyness... What I can say now is that doing a Gibson roll look is so much easier than I thought. At least if you have enough bobby pins and a big flower to cover up little mistakes. I got quite a few compliments on this one and it lasted through the whole day. Yay!

Front view. That´s me. Hi!
The sides are still a bit messy but it could have been worse!
I obviously need a dye job.
On other notes it seems like an ebay seller send me an unexpected little gift. I hope it was no mistake on his side. More on that next time.

Elsa Handarbeit und Wäsche 5/1956

While I´m waiting for the rain to stop I want to share with you another issue of the knitting and sewing magazine Elsa. This one is from 1956 and as I´m not such a big fan of the later 50s, so I´m selling it over at my dawanda shop.

The girl on the right is a seriously cool kid.

Suspenders

A photo of grandma and an unknown boy. I love the detail on her collar.

Work out at the beach

The picture belongs to a series of photos taken in Prerow, Germany, in 1953.
